Reclaimed Parquet Blanket Box / Bench
I was fortunate enough to salvage this pitch pine parquet from a Methodist church in Bridgend, south wales. The pine has a beautiful rich colour that is accentuated by the herringbone pattern. Fun to think how many parishioners walked over it without giving it a second glance and now it is celebrated in its new life as this blanket box bench.
The beeswax polished herringbone lid nests neatly inside the gloss white metal frame. Its edges only revealed when effortlessly lifted thanks to the gas assist struts. At 45cm high the box makes a perfect hallway bench seat with plenty of space for shoes. Alternatively it is perfectly proportioned to sit at the end of a double bed providing great storage and a seat. A solid brass machined handle sits in the centre and solid brass hinge details are exposed on the sides.
It’s a real privilege to work with timber with such an amazing story and a real joy to give it a new meaning and a new life. We love this blanket box and we hope you do too :)
This box sits at 1.5m wide by 0.4m deep by 0.45 high. As with all my work it can be customised to suit your requirements. Just ask for a free quote.
